Clean moulds and sound bonds in brake pad production.
Brake pads are made by shaping a mix of resin, fibres, fillers and friction modifiers in a cold preforming step, then moulding it together with the backing plate in a hot press and curing it in an oven. In this process the release agent directly determines clean demoulding, freedom from build-up and mould life. In friction materials the release agent must also stop where its job ends: it must not affect the backing plate bond, the friction surface or the subsequent painting. Since 1992 Biyopol Kimya has been producing release agents in İzmir, Türkiye, and offers process-specific solutions to brake pad and friction material producers.

The most common problems on the line
- Pads sticking to the mould or punch, broken edges and corners
- Build-up on the mould surface, dimensional drift and press stops for cleaning
- Release agent reaching the backing plate and the risk of reduced bond strength
- Adhesion problems in subsequent painting or coating
- High consumption, mist and odour in the application area
The Biyopol approach
Press temperature and time, mix type, mould material and application method (spray, automatic) are assessed together.
The effect on the backing plate bond, friction surface and paint is checked separately in the trial protocol.
A thin, even film for clean release and less frequent mould cleaning.
Cans, drums and IBCs, batch quality control, TDS and SDS support, and performance follow-up after start-up.
Applications
- Disc brake pads for passenger cars and commercial vehicles
- Drum brake linings
- Clutch facings
- Railway brake blocks and pads
- Industrial, crane and off-highway friction materials
Preparing for a trial: what we need from you
- Hot press temperature and time
- Mould material and whether preforming is used
- Current release agent, application method and approximate consumption
- Downstream steps (post-curing, grinding, painting)
- The problem you face or the improvement you are aiming for
Frequently asked questions
Does a release agent affect the backing plate bond?
If the wrong product or uncontrolled application reaches the backing plate, it can affect the bond. That is why the product should be chosen together with the application method and bond strength checked separately during the trial.
Does a release agent change friction performance?
A correctly chosen, thinly applied release agent should leave no lasting effect on the pad surface. When switching products we recommend repeating friction tests according to your existing quality plan.
Can we run a trial on our line?
Yes. We prepare a sample for your process, agree the trial protocol with you and provide technical support throughout.
What packaging do you supply?
Depending on the product, cans, drums and IBCs are available.
Let’s trial it on your press
Tell us about your process and we will prepare a suitable sample and trial it with you on your line.
